This is a study of the riff played in the Muddy Waters song, "Mannish Boy,' first recorded May 24, 1955 as a "I" chord tune. Certainly one of the most recognizable blues harmonica riffs of all time. This study song puts the riff in the 12 bar form and shows different ways it can be played outside of the "clean" melody by using all the "5 Types of Sound" (see Learning Guides) and how to play around it mainly using the blues scale. You may need to signal the band the coming changes as most players will not easily think of this riff in the 12 bar form.
